Do you enjoy tabletop roleplaying games and conventions and western Ohio? Well, then have I got some good news for you! Today marks the launch of the Kickstarter for AcadeCon 2017: Fifth Edition!
What is AcadeCon 2017?
It’s the fifth annual tabletop roleplaying game put on by the awesome folks from THE RPG Academy. The con will be held this year the weekend of November 10-12 at the Dayton Convention Center in Dayton, Ohio.
Why should I support this Kickstarter?
The folks over at the RPG Academy aren’t professional convention runners (there’s probably an actual term for this.) They’re regular folks just like you and me that educate and entertain RPG aficionados as a passion. Therefore, they use Kickstarter to sell badges so that they can raise capital before the convention. This way they can actually pay for the facilities. It’s pretty clever.
How much do I have to pledge?
$35 dollars gets you a regular badge. If you hem and haw and miss out on the Kickstarter the same badge will cost you $10.50 more. That’s an absurd waste of money so just back the Kickstarter. There are also options to get a GM badge for $10 and VIP badges for $75.
That same $35 also gets you any stretch goals that are unlocked during the campaign.
That seems reasonable, but who’s gonna be there?
A whole bunch of Special Guests will be there. Kenneth Hite, Jim McClure, James D’Amato, you know what? Just go to the website and you can read them all for yourselves.
Lots of other cool people will probably be there as well. Michael and Caleb will surely be there. AcadeCon is a great opportunity to shake their hands and tell them how much you appreciate everything they do.
Are you gonna be there?
Unfortunately, no. Although I have happily supported this Kickstarter the last two years and will do so again this year, life always conspires to prevent me from actually attending. It looks like this year will be no exception. You should definitely still go though, enjoy games and drink a toast to my absence.
What if I don’t live in Dayton?
If you don’t live in the greater Dayton area you can still attend. Dayton has roads and an airport that allow people from outside of the city to enter in. AcadeCon offers the unique feature of being able to stay in a hotel that is in the same state as the convention. They have partnered with the Crown Plaza Dayton which connects right to the convention center. If you mention that you’re attending AcadeCon they’ll give you a discounted rate!
Anything else I should know?
AcadeCon has a rigid Code of Conduct and a No Harassment policy that you can check out here.
So what are you waiting for? Go back the Kickstarter for AcadeCon 2017: Fifth Edition now!
